She’s dominating.
Mid-way through Day 5 Hille had amassed over three million chips, good enough to put her in the top 10, and was showing no signs of slowing down.
“This has already gone beyond my wildest expectations,” said the 26-year-old. “I’m just trying to take it one level at a time.”
Hille only started playing poker four years ago and has yet to make a major score in a live tournament. That will certainly change in this event as she’s already guaranteed herself $44,655 for her efforts.
“I fell in love with the game straight away,” said Hille referring to when her boyfriend taught her to play.
Following Annette Obrestad's Footsteps
Hille's not the only Norwegian female to record a notable WSOP Main Event run of course. Annette Obrestad won the WSOPE Main Event in 2008.
“Annette is definitely one of the girls I’ve looked up to in poker,” she said.
The Main Event in Las Vegas has never had a female winner and if Hille is able to make the final table it would likely get some mainstream attention, especially in Norway.
“Poker is a very misunderstood game in Norway,” she explained. “I’d love it if more Norwegian girls got into poker because most of it is all online right now.”
A total of four female players, including PokerStars pro Vanessa Selbst and Gaelle Baumann, remained mid-way through Day 5 of the 2012 Main Event.
It’s worth noting that Barbera Enright is the only woman to ever make the final table of the Main event. She finished fifth for $114k in 1995. Annie Duke finished 10th in the 2000 Main Event.
Here’s a look at the last women standing in the last five WSOP Main Events.
