WSOP Tweet Relief: The Saddest Day of the Year

Whatever the explanation or the nickname, there's one long-standing poker trope that tends to hold true:

The day a poker player busts from the World Series of Poker Main Event is his or her saddest day of the year.

With three Day 1s and two Day 2s almost in the books for 2012, that means A LOT of poker players have fallen by the wayside already.

Today in Tweet Relief we pay tribute to the dearly departed in self-loathing, post-humous tweet form:

So ends my last tournament as a pro. With grad school on the horizon, I'll see you all next year, but I'll be the guy folding on the bubble.

— Matt Hawrilenko (@hoss_tbf) July 11, 2012

And that's that. Button limps, SB limps, I jam 10.4k w/A8hh, BTN has KK and I brick. Strange feeling right now. Colorado is calling me home.

Out of main event...i wanna go deep in that event 1 year

— Justin Charles Smith (@BoostedJ) July 10, 2012

For a professional poker player, the day you bust out of the main event is one of the worst of the year. Nothing can explain it.

— David Williams (@dwpoker) July 10, 2012

The day a pro busts the main event is the day he starts cheering for all the idiots he stakes. Obviously @Bond_18 is busto too tho. Fuck.

— Mike Watson (@SirWatts) July 10, 2012

Super disappointing 2012 @WSOP series... Must be #justbadluck . Time to enjoy some completely undeserved vacation now. #iwillbeback

— Bertrand Grospellier (@elkypoker) July 9, 2012
