3) Timothy Adams Wins Third Canadian WSOP Bracelet
Canadian Timothy Adams became the first No-Limit Hold’em 4-Max champion in the history of the WSOP on Saturday.
Adams cut his way through a field of 750 players to win the inaugural tournament for $392,476.
The Burlington, Ontario, native had six WSOP cashes before today and had performed particularly well in short-handed events.
Apparently the shorter the better for Adams as he beat surging Australian Brendon Rubie heads-up to take first place and the bracelet.
It was also the third bracelet by a Canadian this summer, which cements the country in second place, according to bracelets won. USA is far and away the leader, however.
Considering 750 players paid the $2,500 buy in with contestants from 35 different countries there is little doubt that the 4-Max format will be returning to the 2013 WSOP.
2) Crown Releases 2013 Aussie Millions Schedule
It may be the World Series of Poker but that doesn’t mean every piece of poker news breaks in Las Vegas.
Crown Casino released their schedule for the 2013 Aussie Millions this weekend and it looks like the premier Australian poker series will remain unchanged by the recent addition of WSOP Asia Pacific.
The 2013 Aussie Millions will include 26 events from January 17 to Feb. 3, 2012.
Almost every event from last year is returning including the $25k, $100k and $250k high roller tournaments and of course the $10k main event.
Every winner will receive a championship ring.
“As one of the only remaining independent events on the international poker circuit, the Aussie Millions has effectively become one of the top four poker majors and a favorite amongst some of the most renowned players in the world,” said Crown CEO Greg Hawkins.
Next year will be the first time the Crown Casino also plays host to WSOP Asia Pacific and five WSOP gold bracelet events from April 4-15, 2013.
1) Big Numbers in Event 31 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
The WSOP had a relatively slow start this year but things are really starting to heat up in Las Vegas.
Today’s Event 31 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em drew a total of 2,811 runners, which makes it the biggest single starting day tournament of the 2012 WSOP (The $1,500 re-entry tournament had two starting days and hit 3,404 players).
Always one of the most popular events at the WSOP there have been three regular $1,500 events held this summer and every one has seen its numbers increase dramatically.
Today throngs of players crowded their way into the Rio and the registration line filed a good 100 feet down the hallway at one point.
The first place finisher in Event 31 walk away with an impressive $664,130. Not a bad return on a $1,500 investment.
Midway through the final level of the day Erik Cajelais, Soi Nguyen and Cherish Andrews were amongst the top five chip leaders.
