Read on for the details on Negreanu’s near miss, what might happen when the most hated woman in poker hits the felt in Las Vegas as well as an update on PokerListings.com’s unique new “Follow the Chips” coverage.
Kid Poker Misses Bracelet #5
Daniel Negreanu already has four WSOP bracelets but he was within spitting distance of his fifth at the Rio this evening.
With 53 WSOP cashes, 28 final tables and over $16 million in live tournament winnings there’s a reason Kid Poker is an elite poker celebrity.
And now, just a few events into the 2012 WSOP, he’s already put himself in position to win another bracelet.
Event 5, the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament that started on Wednesday, played down to a winner tonight and Negreanu ended up going broke in fifth.
The Kid was in a great spot to double up, all-in with A-Q against Nick Jivkov’s A-J, but the board ran Q-T-9-2-K.
Jivkov flopped an open-ender and rivered the straight to send Negreanu out the door with just over $41,000 in his pocket.
Eliminated next was former WPT champ Tommy Vedes in fourth and online pro Jonathan “Fatal Error” Aguiar. Nick Jivkov went on to take down the bracelet.
PokerListings Continues to Follow the Chips
It’s pretty safe to say our “Follow the Chips” coverage of Event 6, $5,000 Mixed Max, has been a success.
It started with a simple premise: Cover one player at a time and when he or she loses a pot, follow those chips to another noteworthy player.
We started yesterday with Jean-Robert Bellande and followed the chips to Kristina Holst. We jumped to Eric Froehlich who busted Holst and went on to build a stack, and then leapfrogged from E-Fro to recent WPT Championship winner Marvin Rettenmaier.
Rettenmaier then lost a big pot to 2012 PCA runner-up Kyle Julius, who was busted by Frenchman Nicolas Levi shortly after.
As play ended for the night we had followed the chips from Levi to WPT winner Will “The Thrill” Failla, and then to 2010 November Niner Joe Cheong.
And we’re going to keep following the chips all the way to a winner in this event.
32 players remain and, according to the Mixed Max format, the remainder of this tournament will be played heads-up.
We’ll start with Joe Cheong tomorrow and follow his chips all the way to the eventual winner. This event’s got some big names still in, including John Hennigan, Brian Rast, Aaron Jones, Eric Froehlich, Joe Tehan, Brock Parker and Victor Ramdin.

Annie Duke to Arrive at WSOP Tomorrow
According to her Twitter account Annie Duke is arriving tomorrow to play the World Series of Poker.
Heading to Vegas tonight for the $5K stud on Sunday. Love the late night drive.
— Annie Duke (@AnnieDuke) June 2, 2012Some people are taking exception with that plan.
We had previously hypothesized she might be getting in to play the $10k heads-up event on Saturday, considering she won the NBC Heads-Up Championship in 2010.
We’re hoping things don’t get too messy but we have heard a long list of suggestions about what should be done. The inventory includes an outright WSOP ban, all the way down to calling the clock on her at every opportunity.
While Annie Duke isn’t garnering the hate of a Howard Lederer or a Chris Ferguson at this point, she certainly has her detractors.
Personally we're still upset that she did an interview about how Epic Poker was legitimizing the poker world, one week before declaring bankruptcy.
I mean really Annie. A little heads-up would have been nice.
