Today in the WSOP 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Vanessa Selbst coming up just shy of a bracelet, Annette Obrestad pulling some power moves in the $3k HU HA and our live updating crew set to take another follow the chips in the $5k Mix Max.
1) Hanks Wins, Selbst Falls Just Short of Second Bracelet
PokerStars pro Vanessa Selbst came within three places of becoming the first female player to win an open-bracelet event since… Vanessa Selbst.
Selbst’s magnificent run in the first open event of the 2012 WSOP – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em – came to an end when she made a short-stack shove with K♦ 7♦ and fellow pro Andrew Badecker called her down with K♣ Q♦.
Selbst got into trouble when she made a massive fold on a A♣ 8♠ 5♣ 2♠ 8♥ board facing a big bet from Jacob Bazeley. Down to 14 big blinds, it didn’t take long for Selbst to get all her money in the middle.
Online pro Brent “bhanks11” Hanks ended up taking down the tournament after a back-and-forth heads-up match with Bazeley.
Hanks earned his first WSOP gold bracelet and $517,725 for the win. Bazeley took home $322,294 while Selbst earned $161,345.
It was no doubt a disappointing finish for Selbst but on the bright side she’s got quite a few more chances to win a bracelet this summer with 55 events still to play.
2) Obrestad Inspired in $3k Heads-Up NLHE/PLO
While Selbst couldn't quite close out the first $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event, Annette Obrestad kept the female torch burning brightly in Event #3, $3k Heads-Up NLHE/PLO.
Obrestad played an inspired brand of poker today and quickly dispatched Sebastian Saffari and Ryan Franklin on her way to booking a seat in the final eight.
The young Norwegian rocketed to poker stardom in 2007 when she won the inaugural WSOPE Main Event for £1,000,000.
The final eight players in Event #3 include Obrestad, Jason Koon, Leif Force, Andy Frankenberger, David Benefield, Simeon Naydenov, Gregg Merkow and Julian Powell.
Here's how they match up:
Annette Obrestad vs. Jason Koon Simeon Naydenov vs. David 'Raptor" Benefield Julian Powell vs. Gregg Merkow Leif Force vs. Andy FrankenbergerEach remaining player will receive at least $28,000 so Obrestad’s already secured one of her biggest cashes ever at the WSOP.

3) PokerListings Follows the Chips in $5k Mix Max
The PokerListings live update team is mixing up our coverage this year with a unique format for every Day 1 of the 14 feature events we'll cover.
Tomorrow the live update team will attempt Round 2 in the $5,000 Mix Max event with the idea being to follow a big-name pro and his chips wherever they go.
That means if we pick Daniel Negreanu but Erik Seidel busts him, then we’ll follow Seidel.
One way or another it’s going to be interesting and we’ll revert back to traditional live updates on Day 2 of the contest.
