Online gaming giant PokerStars is moving into the daily fantasy online sports arena.
PokerStars’ parent company Amaya announced today it has acquired the Texas-based Victiv daily fantasy sports site.
The plan is to re-brand Victiv as StarsDraft and launch the new site at www.StarsDraft.com.
Initially StarsDraft will only be available in select US markets at StarsDraft.com but eventually the idea is to build StarsDraft right into the main PokerStars client.
Deal Looks to Capitalize on Poker/DFS Crossover
Victiv was renowned for having one of the most user-friendly designs of all the major daily fantasy sports sites.
The site was also famous for offering a free Bankroll Builder that allows new players to learn the game in a risk-free environment.
"StarsDraft will combine Victiv's innovative platform and experienced DFS team with Amaya's expansive consumer base and operational excellence as the world's preeminent online gaming brand," said Matthew Primeaux, CEO of Victiv.
"We intend to capitalize on what we believe is strong crossover between online poker players and daily fantasy sports. PokerStars is the most-trusted brand in online gaming and brings unmatched security, customer support and technical infrastructure that we believe all players can rely on.”
Daily fantasy sports is one of the fastest growing industries and Eilers Research estimates there will around $2.6 billion in entries paid in 2015 alone. It's also very popular with poker players.
