Luneau proved to be the biggest “investor” last week and nobody profited more from that than Cort Kibler-Melby.
With almost $700k winnings last week the German-American player is now up to almost $3m in profit for this year.
Luneau Owns Kagome, thecortster Owns Luneau
Early last week we suspected something big was going to happen and large amounts of money would be won and lost. We were right.
It began with a duel between Alexandre alexonmoon Luneau vs Julius KagomeKagome Fleischer. The Frenchman living in London took everything the German had taken from him earlier within a six-hour session: $550k at $2k/$4k 2-7 Triple Draw.
Unfortunately, Luneau’s good run didn’t last long. Only 24 hours later, he met the current best player in 2-7 Triple Draw: German-American player Cort Kibler-Melby.
They played three sessions and at the end of them Kibler-Melby had $600k in his bankroll.
That was enough to make him by far the most profitable player of the week. Over 2014 he's now amassed almost $3m, making him the #2, right behind Alexander Kostritsyn.
Almost all of his winnings come from 2-7 Triple Draw, a game he is dominating like no other player this year.
His buddies and former roommates Sebastian Ruthenberg, Niklas Heinecker, Philipp Gruissem and Fabian Quoss should be pretty happy, too, as it is not too far-fetched to assume they not only analyze poker together but also swap shares.
Luneau, on the other hand, dropped out of the top 5 earners in 2014 for the first time. His swings over the last two weeks have been reminiscent of Viktor Blom.
He still has $1.2m of profit in the bank, though -- enough to keep fueling the online high-stakes fire.
Kostritsyn vs Ivey – the Kings of Mixed Games
Today the high-stakes world is divided between players who solely play draw games while others prefer mixed games, Omaha, and Hold’em.
One player who has recently become more active again is none other than Phil Ivey. And it is very likely that he hasn’t had an upswing like last week since Black Friday.
Carlooo13, whose identity still hasn’t been revealed, suffered the most from the recent success of Polarizing.
The American won almost $400k and it felt like this was the beginning of a wild battle. KagomeKagome took another bite out of Alexandre Luneau’s bankroll and then gave it all away to Trueteller and BigBadBoss, among others.
Ivey lost to Kyle KPR16 Ray in FL08 and to Kostritsyn in Mixed Games. His duel against the Russian was a particularly fiery game with several pots worth over $100,000.
At the end of the week the best live all-round player and the best online all-round player were pretty even with Kostritsyn at a small advantage.

The 10 biggest hands of the week were all played between Kostritsyn and Ivey. They were playing 8-Game $200/$400 and the largest pot was generated in NLHE.

Kostritsyn was betting his outs on flop and turn, while Ivey probably had a lot of respect for the river, putting out possible full houses and a potential flush. Still, he had top two pair and won the biggest pot of the week, worth $162k.
