The WSOP Daily 3-Bet catches you up with three key items that you might have missed from yesterday’s action at the biggest poker series of the year.
In today’s WSOP 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Phil Ivey putting the fear of god into anyone who gambles against him, a couple weird incidents in the Rio and the most insane poker hand that didn’t take place in Las Vegas.
1) Ivey Scares Punters, Finishes 18th in $25k
When you bet against Phil Ivey, you’re never safe from a good sweat.
Ivey had everyone who took a bracelet bet against him (why would you do that again?) sweating up a storm in the first open-event of the 2014 WSOP.
Ivey made the final 20 of the $25,000 Mixed Max and was a legit threat to take the entire thing down.
It even took a pretty bad beat to eliminate him as he flopped a straight against JC Tran, who had the fortune to flop a flush.
Ivey (who is chasing his 10th WSOP bracelet) couldn’t get away from the hand and finished in 18th place, just shy of the money.
Of course Daniel Negreanu offered even money to anyone willing to bet against himself or Ivey winning a bracelet this summer. Should be a restless summer for anyone who took him up.
If the first event is any indication it appears that Ivey has successfully put his disappointing 2013 WSOP campaign behind him and came to Vegas ready to play.
1st event of the WSOP and @philivey is in the last 18. Could ice the bracelet bet in the very first event. Fun sweat for the don't bettors!
— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) May 29, 20142) Pesonen, Jouhkimainen Get Laptops Jacked from Rio
What is it with Finnish poker pros getting laptops stolen from hotels?
After Jens “jeans89” Kyllonen’s miserable experience at EPT Barcelona, both Lauri Pesonen and Joni Jouhkimainen had their laptops stolen yesterday from the Rio, of all places.
Strangely their wallets, iPads and et cetera were left behind.
Both my and @Jouhkb's laptops stolen from our room at Rio. Everything else, wallets, ipads etc still here. EPT Barcelona again?
— Lauri Pesonen (@oopinlare) May 28, 2014Just found out that the guys also took our sanitary bags and sunglasses instead of iPad&wallets wtf . Whats wrong with this people
— Joni Jouhkimainen (@Jouhkb) May 28, 2014The Finns weren’t the only poker players targeted, however, as Manh Nguyen said he had large sums of money stolen from his room at the Rio.
There’s already a rapidly-expanding thread on TwoPlusTwo about the issue.
WSOP TD Jack Effel Tweeted that the staff at the Rio take the allegations very seriously and will report back on the issue shortly.
3) Craziest Four Way All-in Hand To Win the Canada Cup EVER
Alright technically this isn’t the WSOP but it’s one of the craziest poker hands we’ve ever seen.
The PokerStars Canada Cup concluded last night with a four-way all-in. That’s right it was a tournament reporter’s dream as the chip leader, amateur poker player Robert Notkin, eliminated THREE opponents in the final hand of the tournament.
If you’re thinking aces versus kings versus queens you’d be wrong. Check below to see how it all went down below (the hand starts around the 8h46m mark). You can also watch a complete replay of the event on our blog.
