Timoshenko outlasted Martin Jacobson, David Steicke, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, Doug Polk, Erik Seidel and finally Mike “Timex” McDonald in what turned out to be a marathon final table that didn’t end until past 4 a.m.
This year’s $100k Challenge proved to be the biggest in Aussie Millions history with a total of 76 entries and a massive $7.4 million prize pool.
Negreanu Wins $550k, Only Records Small Profit
2013 POY Daniel Negreanu finished sixth for $550,000 but considering the Canadian spent $500,000 on buy-ins it certainly wasn’t anywhere near the greatest score in his career.
Patrik Antonius was the next to go in fifth place while online whiz Doug “WCGRider” Polk made his biggest live tournament cash ever with $860,000 for fourth place.
With Polk eliminated that left Seidel, McDonald and Timoshenko to battle it out for the $2m first-place prize. Timoshenko eliminated Seidel in third and then finally beat McDonald after a back-and-forth heads-up battle.
McDonald is on pace for a record year as he already made two final tables at the PCA for $1.2 million combined. He’s now up nearly $3 million in 2014, which isn’t bad considering he retired from poker a few years back.
Meanwhile Timoshenko’s $2 million score is just another massive accolade in a stellar career, which includes victories at APT Macau, the WPT World Championship and the WCOOP online. He’s now won close to $6 million in live tournaments.
