Germany's domination of high-stakes poker tournaments picked up right where it left off in 2013 as Fabian Quoss topped Dan Shak and Vanessa Selbst in the Bahamas tonight for the $100k PCA Super High Roller title.
Quoss, part of an elite group of German pros that includes Phillip Gruissem, Tobias Renkemeier, Igor Kurganov, Ole Schemion and more, earned $1.6 million for his latest title, adding to the $1m+ he won in high-roller tournaments last year.
Shak, Selbst Go Down Fighting
Coming into the final table fourth of seven Quoss jumped up the ranks early with a double elimination of with a double elimination of short stacks Tony Gregg and Schemion.
After the other short stack coming in, Matt Glantz, busted in fifth an entertaining four-handed match picked up with Quoss, Shak, Selbst and Antonio Esfandiari all trading punches.
Esfandiari eventually bowed out in a flip with Selbst and it looked like she'd ride the momentum to victory, but after some up-and-down swings she turned two- pair against Quoss' straight and that was all.
Quoss finally finished Shak off after an hour of heads-up play when he turned a straight and snapped off Shak's shove with second pair and an up-and-down straight draw.
Shak earned $1.2m for second and Selbst $760k for third. The final eight and payouts:
