Originally slated to win €800,000, Pateychuk takes home €680,000 to go with his title and trophy instead thanks to a deal the two players negotiated before heads-up play began.
Both agreed to take €600,000 and leave an extra €80,000 for the winner.
Pateychuk dominated most of the heads-up play with Danchev but needed a massive suckout to finally take control.
After about two hours of play that left them almost exactly even in chips, Danchev opened on the button to 325,000 and Pateychuk three-bet to 900,000. Danchev made the call.
Pateychuk c-bet 1,200,000 into a 2♥ 4♠ 9♠ flop and Danchev raised to 2,600,000. Pateychuk shoved and Danchev called tabling T♠ 9♣ for top pair.
Pateychuk showed the 7♠ 6♣ and was on the brink of defeat but the 8♥ turn and 5♥ river gave him the straight and crippled Danchev.
Despite one more double up for Danchev, Pateychuk grabbed the victory a few hands later.
Pateychuk finishes off a huge-field tournament victory just three months after narrowly missing another big final table at the 2011 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas.
Coming into Day 8 fourth overall in chips and looking like a strong contender for the November Nine, Pateychuk ultimately fizzled out in 15th-place - albeit for a still impressive $478,174.
An Information Security student at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Pateychuk only started to play poker three years ago. The EPT San Remo title is his largest tournament cash to date.
Danchev has only been playing poker for four years himself and just two years as a professional. His €600k score is also his career best.
Narrowly missing the big payday today but still reaching his biggest live cash ever was Australian pro Daniel Neilson.
The chip leader coming into the final table, Neilson hit several rough patches over the day before finally busting out in third for €285,000.
Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman finished fourth for €225,000.
Looking for his second EPT title but coming into the day as the short stack, noted pro Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee couldn’t get anything going and busted in eighth place for €63,694.
