Any tips for things to include in a future 3-Bet, drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find a long-awaited rant from everyone’s favorite poker ranter, election prognosticator and poker grinder Nate Silver making a big leap to ESPN and two poker players recount very disparate experiences at the WSOP this summer.
1) Negreanu: Losing WSOP, Winning at Life
There’s really only one downside to the seven long weeks of the WSOP (besides the Rio flu and markup in the poker kitchen). Poker’s leading ambassador and emotional barometer, Daniel Negreanu, is too busy playing poker to lay down his rants.
Now that the series has wound up Negreanu is thankfully freed up to shoot his much-loved video rant, and a new one arrived for fans last night.
Topics include his results to date for 2013 (up $1m for the year, down for summer), the new (and unwelcome) “first card” rule and his plans for August (teaching at Choice Center). He's fairly sure he'll win a bracelet at the WSOPE too.
He also seems to have switched to a new hairbrush. Rant below:
2) Nate Silver Building New Empire at ESPN
PokerListings fav Nate Silver is also on the go post-WSOP, announcing that he’s moving his ultra-influential political blog, fivethirtyeight.com, from the New York Times to ESPN.
A major poker lover and former baseball statistician, Silver has hinted he wanted to focus on sports a bit more in the future and, well, there’s not really a better place to do so than ESPN
According to early reports Silver will get his own personal “megabrand” under the ESPN umbrella similar to Bill Simmons’ Grantland.
Slate reports Silver will get “extensive air time, a role in the Oscars" and essentially a "digital empire that may include websites devoted to weather, education, economics and other topics.” Come election time he’ll likely appear on ABC news, also owned by ESPN’s parent company Disney.

3) Nicholson Drinks and Rails, Redding Lives Dream
One of the truly great things about the WSOP is the multitude of experiences you're bound to fall into no matter how long you stay or how much you win or lose.
With thousands of poker players from around the world, non-stop chips and cards flying, debauchery at your fingertips and millions of dollars floating about, you’re pretty much guaranteed to leave with a life-altering story or two.
The trip reports for 2013 are flitering in and two we’ve particularly liked give a good glimpse at the ends of the spectrum.
Lil Dave Nicholson, who we’ve featured on PL before, is always good for a story and he delivered one of his finest this summer.
A fixture on any boisterous British rail, Nicholson shared in another epic one with bracelet-winning countryman Matt Perrins. It began, of course, with drinks, and ended up with $1,000 ripped jeans, a dip in the Mirage fountain and some quality time with the LVPD.
PokerDad Mark Redding, basically the anti-Nicholson, came out to Vegas with his own Dad to try and satellite into the Main Event for the first time. He did all that and then some, getting to Day 2c as one of the chip leaders.
God bless the WSOP. Check Nicholson's account here and Redding's here. Have a great WSOP story of your own? Share it in the comments below.
