JC Tran finished with 11.9 million chips, which was good enough to put him in fourth place at the end of the night.
Widely regarded as one of the best tournament players in the world, Tran has over $8 million in live tournament earnings but hasn’t won a major title since 2009.
Meanwhile Mortensen has the chance to become one of the very few players who has won the Main Event multiple times. Mortensen, who is not particularly active on the tournament circuit, won the Main Event in 2001 for $1.5 million.
The Spaniard finished with 10.7 million chips, which puts him in sixth place.
Both players are looking up to upstart German pro Anton Morgenstern who amassed 21.9 million.
Glazier, Jaffe, Lunkin Fall Out of Contention
Day 6 transpired at a rapid-fire pace with 41 eliminations in four levels.
Vitaly Lunkin, Jonathan Jaffe, Noah Schwartz, Brett Richey and Andrea Dato were among the notable players who busted.
Jackie Glazier, who was the last woman standing in the 2013 Main Event, was also eliminated on Day 6. Glazier finished in 31st place for $229k.
Eliminations occurred so quickly on Day 6 that the WSOP decided to call the night early when they got down to 27 players.
While Tran and Mortensen headline the final 27, there are a number of other compelling storylines left in the 2013 Main Event.
WSOP bracelet winner Amir Lehavot finished with 7.3 million. Former WPT Foxwoods winner Mark Newhouse ended with 5.7 million.
Incredibly Steve Gee, who placed 9th in the Main Event last year, is still alive in the 2013 edition. He will take 3.1 million into play tomorrow.
Finally former high-stakes pro David “Rapter” Benefield is the short-stack with 1.8 million.
Action resumes tomorrow at noon local time. It’s the final day of the 2013 WSOP Main Event this summer. They will play until nine players remain and then go on a four-month delay.
