Piqué, who was on the Spanish national team that recently finished second to Brazil in the Confederations Cup, has some experience in poker as he made an appearance at EPT Barcelona in 2011.
Hardly a poker rookie, Piqué finished third in the €5k 6-Max Turbo event that Roberto Romanello won for $158,834. Piqué picked up $58k for his only official live tournament cash.
Today Piqué was incognito with a New York Yankees cap and large headphones although a swarm of media quickly figured out who it was and surrounded the table.
Norway's John Carew Seeks First Live Tournament Cash
Hulking Norwegian striker John Carew also carried a significant stack into Day 2c.
Slightly less experienced in poker, Carew free-rolled into the Main Event thanks to Norwegian online poker site ComeOn! Norge.
When it comes to poker, both players have a long ways to go until they surpass famous retired English striker Teddy Sheringham.
A noted shark, Sheringham has 12 official cashes on the international tournament circuit including 14th in the 2009 WSOPE Main Event and fifth in the PokerStars EPT Vilamoura.
Interestingly PokerStars recently signed retired Brazilian superstar Ronaldo, although he has yet to play a WSOP event.
There are still several thousand players of the original 6,352 entrants left in the 2013 Main Event. The money begins with 648 players remaining.
