“I guess their new motto has to be ‘Play here, but if you win we may not pay you,’” said Greenstein while on break at the 2013 WSOP.
Ivey is involved in a massive lawsuit with the venerable casino after the property allegedly refused to pay Ivey out for a huge $11.9 million gambling score he racked up while playing Punto Banco Baccarat.
Meanwhile the casino has alleged that Ivey detected imperfections in the deck and was able to take advantage during his two-day heater.
“This kind of thing doesn’t happen every day,” said Greenstein about the case.
Greenstein didn’t want to comment too much while the case is ongoing and would only hypothesize about the situation.
“Phil didn’t mark any cards or do anything wrong from his point of view,” said Greenstein.
“He’s had big wins and he’s had big losses. This is kind of annoying for him because you can [lose] a few million then go off for a big score and they don’t want to pay you.”
Ivey is one of the biggest all-time winners in poker with over $17 million in lifetime tournament earnings.
He's the biggest all-time winner online according to www.highstakesdb.com with $19.2 million in winnings. Ivey also recently won his ninth gold bracelet at WSOP APAC.
