Ivey, Dwan, Blom, Galfond Advance in NBC Heads-Up

Poker superstars Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Phil Galfond were all among the survivors as were notable heads-up experts Dan “Jungleman12” Cates and Scott Seiver.

Old timers Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Mike Matusow, Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra and Huck Seed all represented well for the "old guard" of poker and also made it to the next round.

Other notables to advance include Chris Moneymaker, Antonio Esfandiari and 2010 WSOP Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel.

Dwan/Brunson, Blom/Matusow in Round of 32

As for the next round, Dwan has perhaps the most fan-friendly match in the Round of 32 as he’ll face poker icon Brunson.

Brunson defeated alternate Tom Marchese to advance while the other alternate to make the field, David “Doc” Sands, won his match against WSOP October Niner Rob Salaburu.

Sands will now meet 2003 WSOP Main Event champ Moneymaker in the second round.

Other marquee matchups include Blom vs. Matusow, Ivey vs. Justin Bonomo, Galfond vs. Eugene Katchalov and Cates vs. British pro Chris Moorman.

French pro Gaëlle Baumann and Vanessa Rousso are the only females left in the field. Baumann edged Liv Boeree in the first round while Maria Ho and Jennifer Tilly lost their matches.

Action picks up again at 2 pm in Vegas today with Round of 32 and Sweet 16 matches scheduled. Here’s how the brackets shaped up:
