Today in the 3-Bet we find David Williams brandishing his Magic skills to great affect, Tobey Maguire reaffirmed as the true Hollywood poker kingpin and Jason Somerville documenting his immersive training for Octo-Niner Russell Thomas.
1) David Williams Flops Daggerdrome Imp, Wins Grand Prix
The saying really is true.
Once you’ve tasted the thrill of going runner-runner hobgoblin, you just can’t get Magic: The Gathering out of your system.
Former Magic pro David Williams couldn’t resist the haunting call back to his old stomping grounds over the weekend and took part in the MTG Grand Prix San Jose.
Well, took part might be understating the matter – more like he unleashed his Carnival Hellsteed all over it.
Williams and two teammates ran roughshod over 570 other 3-man teams to take the overall GP title and, reportedly, a share of $6k.
Fellow Magic-pro-turned-poker-pro Eric Froehlich also played but was run out in the semi-finals.
In case you were wondering, Williams says his most critical cards were the Daggerdrome Imp, the Call of the Conclave, the Korozda Guildmage and the Izzet Charm x3.

2) Maguire Reaffirmed as Hollywood Home Game Kingpin
Or at least he kinda, sorta is -- along with a guy named Jeremiah.
Hollywood Interrupted blogger Mark Ebner has reposted his massive exposé of the "underground" Hollywood poker scene that expanded much further on the leaked info originally revealed via the Brad Ruderman lawsuits.
Ebner named a lot of names and pinpointed Maguire as the host of the current prestige game, the major catalyst for pushing the stakes to astronomical limits and as the biggest winner.
Yep. Tobey Maguire. Boy #3 in Rodney Dangerfield's 1989 TV movie Opening Night at Rodney's Place.
If you missed it the first time, it's an illuminating (if long) piece that covers a lot of hallowed Hollywood poker ground.

Speaking of illuminating, behind-the-scenes poker media, Parts 1 and 2 of Jason Somervile's new documentary "The Final Table" are now online and well worth a watch.
Hired by October Niner Russell Thomas to help prepare him for the upcoming final table of the WSOP Main Event, Somerville is recording and posting an inside look at the intensive two-week training session he engineered in Long Island.
Including mock playouts of the final table with hired guns like Leo Wolpert and Matt Berkey, Thomas is clearly using his time wisely to pick the brains of some of the best poker minds in the country.
