Daily 3-Bet: Cody Blowout, Macau Re-Up, Hot Dutch Girls

Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet, feel free to drop a note in the comments.

Today in the 3-Bet we find UK pro Jake Cody driving a train into the ocean, the big games in Macau blowing up again and hot Dutch field hockey players drawing attention at the Olympics.

1) Cody’s Crazy Summer Includes Hippo, Lots of Chris Moorman

Jake Cody
Like a train right into the ocean.

Winner of the $25k Heads-Up event to kick off the 2011 WSOP, PKR poker pro Jake Cody had a much more modest summer on the tables this year with just one cash – 35th place in a $1k event – to his name.

That didn’t stop him from having the time of his life, however, as he reported in a photo-heavy blog post yesterday:

“David Nicholson’s blog a few weeks ago was called ‘off the rails’, that would be an understatement for how i would describe my time in Vegas… my friend Madison described it as so far off the rails you are driving the train straight into the ocean, which is a lot closer to the truth.

“However, I don’t want this to come across as depressing.. i am well aware of the train and the last month or so have been some of the most fun-filled and action packed of my entire life …

“It has definitely been crazy, and part of what Vegas is all about, and i wouldn’t change any of it.”

Among the ingredients in Cody’s summer blowout were sake bombs, a hippo, magic, lots of alcohol, baseball, massages, a birthday and a lot of Chris Moorman.

Despite it being a fairly poor summer at the tables for Cody, he did start the trip off with a bit of a cushion as he had a share of Marvin Rettenmaier's $1.2 million WPT Championship win.

2) Lamb, Le, Robl High-Rolling in Macau; $2 Million Rebuy?

While the standard post-WSOP lull is definitely the order of the day in most of North America, at least a few pros are back getting their kicks in the ultra high-stakes cash games in Macau.

Ben Lamb
Saved all his cash for Macau.

After a couple of 2+2 posters reported seeing some big action at the Star World Casino, Asian Poker Tour rep Tom Hall confirmed he’d also seen some big games happening and that a major high-stakes tourney is in the works for the end of next month:

“Back in Macau for APT. Played a few sessions of HKD5k/HKD5K PLO whilst the main game of 20k/40k NLHE was running next to me...

“Ben Lamb, Nam Le, andy robl from the US. Some of the solid Asian guys also playing.”

“The HK$2m + HK$2m rebuy tournament now confirmed and approved for 31st August in Macau, now that will be fun.”

No more details on the tournament were given but it's assumed the major Asian players from the Big One for One Drop this summer, Paul Phua and Richard Yong, are likely spearheading the action.

While Robl is a regular in the Macau games, Lamb and Le were somewhat surprising names to see mentioned, although Lamb likely saved his bankroll some by sitting out most of the WSOP and Le recently won a high-roller event in Macau.

No signs of Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen or Patrik Antonius were reported although Gus has supposedly been back online playing high stakes under the name “broksi.”

Thanks to Team PokerStars pro Fatima Moreira de Melo, a member of the Holland's Field Hockey team that won gold in 2008, we’ve been in tune with the attractiveness level of the Dutch lady sticksters for years now.

Mainstream media is finally catching up with us as this year’s edition of the team was crowned the "best looking team of the games" by Yahoo! Sports blogger Chris Chase after its opening-match victory against Belgium yesterday.

Social media outlets have been blowing up with tweets, re-tweets and photos of the ladies, and more than a few offers have been made to move to the Netherlands and be a volunteer coach. Wah wah.

Taking Moreira de Melo's lead, several members of the team also have burgeoning side careers along with their Olympics aspirations.

Ellen Hoog and Sophie Polkamp in particular have been seen in modeling campaigns in the Netherlands.

The Dutch men's field hockey team, who we can assume are also quite handsome, will have its chance to create the same buzz later in the Olympics.
