There was plenty of action to go around with the first German bracelet winner of the summer and a hundreds of thousands awarded to players.
Today in the WSOP 3-Bet we look at Sorel Mizzi and Marco Johnson falling short of a bracelet, Phil Ivey’s break from final tables and the upcoming $50k Players Championship.
As always, you can make your own suggestions for the WSOP 3-Bet in the comments section.
3) Bardah Denies Mizzi, Johnson Wins $2,500 Limit 6-Handed
Ronnie Bardah got the best of a tough final table in Event 39 Limit Six-Handed to win $182k.
The part-time kickboxer outlasted pros Sorel Mizzi, Brent Wheeler and finally Marco Johnson heads-up to claim his first WSOP bracelet. Surprisingly Bardah only had two cashes in the Main Event until winning the 6-Max event today.
Meanwhile Mizzi and Johnson will go another day without a bracelet. The two players have combined to cash over 35 times at the WSOP but are both still seeking their first WSOP bracelet.
Mizzi picked up $33,541 for coming in fifth place while Johnson earned $112k for finishing in second place.
Bardah pulled off an improbable victory considering he entered the final day of the tournament last in chips. It was a good day for underdogs as Johnson was second to last in chips to start the day.
2) $50k Players Championship Starts Tomorrow
It’s very strange but for perhaps the first time ever the $50k Players Championship is scheduled to begin tomorrow and there is very little hype for the prestigious tournament.
It could be that this is the first time in a several years that it won’t be televised. It could also be that the massive $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop has taken its place as the huge buy-in event this year.
Whatever the reason there’s a good chance attendance will drop from the 128 players that Brian Rast got by to win $1.7 million in last year’s event.
Don’t write the tournament off too quickly, however. With fewer entrants the event will likely be even more name-heavy than usual and the odds of an absolutely stacked final table are fantastic this year.
We’ll be live updating every step of the way so be sure to tune in at 5 p.m. to follow along.
1) Where’s Phil Ivey?
Something felt amiss on Day 28 of the 2012 WSOP: Phil Ivey wasn’t at a final table.
After absolutely tearing it up over the last couple weeks and seemingly making a final table every day (OK, it was actually five total) Ivey didn’t make any noise today.
Despite his best efforts Ivey wasn’t even deep in any ongoing tournaments on Saturday.
We had a feeling poker fans would already be going through some severe withdrawals so we decided to dig up one of Ivey’s most famous video clips.
This is Ivey pulling off a world-class bluff against Paul Jackson in the Monte Carlo Millions. Feel better now?
