The former stock trader entered the final table as the short stack but was able to make up that deficit and eventually beat English pro Andrew Feldman heads-up to claim the $100k first place prize.
The Mixed Game Championship saw 12 players, split into two groups, play three separate heats in No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha.
Players were also equipped with special “double up” cards they could play to earn double points in whatever heat they chose.
The event drew some of the most well-known players in the world including Mike Sexton, Jennifer Tilly, Tony G, Luke Schwartz, Sorel Mizzi and recent WSOP November Niner Matt Giannetti.
Frankenberger caused a minor controversy during Heat 1 when he checked trip sevens with an ace kicker down all three streets against online poker shark Sorel Mizzi.
Fellow poker player Luke Schwartz called it one of worst hands he’d ever seen.
Frankenberger even received a bit of luck in the final hand when he made a straight with K-T to Feldman’s K-Q. Feldman and Frankenberger had been battling heads-up for more than two hours when Frankenberger finally scored the knockout.
The winner also received an invite to the PartyPoker Premier League final next year so we certainly haven’t seen the last of the New Yorker. He’s now up over $2 million after just two years of playing poker professionally.
Here’s a look at the final table payouts:
1. Andy Frankenberger - $100,000 2. Andrew Feldman - $65,000 3. Sorel Mizzi - $45,000 4. Max Pescatori - $35,000 5. James Dempsey - $30,000 6. Matt Giannetti - $25,000
