3) Atlanta Attorney Wins Event 47 Omaha-8 for $267k

There were three final tables taking place on Day 31 of the 2012 WSOP and while the $50k Championship got top billing, Steven Loube was busy scoring a bracelet in Event 47.

The 34-year-old attorney from Atlanta ended up outlasting 978 players in the $1,500 Omaha-8 tournament to win $267k.

Prior to tonight, Loube’s biggest score at the poker table was winning $50 in a home game.

The final table didn’t feature a ton of big-name talent but Loube did have to face noted poker New Jersey poker pro Timothy Finne when play got down to heads up.

Loube’s 3-1 chip advantage was apparently too much for Finne to overcome and the match only lasted for a few hands.

Amazingly Event 47 was the first WSOP tournament Loube had ever entered.

2) Mizrachi Parleys $50k PPC Win into BIG ONE

Apparently Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is just going to let the $1.4 million he earned in the $50k Championship ride.

The Team Mizrachi Twitter account posted a picture of Mizrachi’s $1 million receipt for the BIG ONE and he simply used the cash he earned from the $50k Players Championship to buy in directly.

In reality Mizrachi already had plans to play the BIG ONE and sold a significant portion of himself in the event last week. The $50k Players Championship windfall just made things a bit simpler.

Considering first place in the BIG ONE will likely be over $10 million and Mizrachi is now the fourth biggest all-time winner in tournament poker with $14 million he could easily become #1 on that list with a strong showing in the massive tournament.

Bottom line: wire transfers are for pansies!

1) Players Go Nuts for Event 50 $5k NLHE

Last year the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event proved to be one of the most popular events as it drew 865 players and offered an $874,116 first-place prize.

It seemed improbable the event could get much bigger this year but that’s exactly what happened when 1,001 poker players showed up to get in on the action today.

The players combined to create a prizepool of nearly $5 million with $952,694 dedicated to first place. Yup, this is a tournament you want to go deep in.

At the end of play Nick Maimone, Jackie Glazer, Will Failla, Chris Bell and Andrew Lichtenberger were near the top of the chip counts. Just over 300 players will return to battle on Day 2.
