3) Ivey Goes Big, Einhorn Goes Bigger

Phil Ivey and edge fund manager David Einhorn have both added their names to the $1 million buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop.

Ivey isn’t that much of a surprise considering he’s been on fire at the 2012 WSOP with five final tables for a total of $572,933. He also won the Aussie Millions $250k Super High Roller for $2 million in January.

He’s also rumored to have millions wrapped up in bracelet bets this year so the Big One could provide one more chance for him to win a gold bracelet.

More of a surprise is David Einhorn who is not only going to play the event but plans to donate all of his winnings to City Year, a non-profit based on focused on high school dropout rate.

Einhorn is no stranger to poker and placed 18th in the biggest live tournament ever held – the 2006 WSOP Main Event – to win $659k. Einhorn donated all of his winnings that year to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

2) Heat Win Championship, Mercier Smiles

The Miami Heat closed out the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals on Thursday and perhaps no one was happier than Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier.

Mercier, clad in a Heat shirt, had to cheer on his favorite team while playing the $10k Pot-Limit Omaha Championship.

Not only did the Florida native get to see the Heat win but he also stands to win a bit of cash. It’s common knowledge Mercier laid a significant amount of money on the Heat to win it all.

His tablemates in the $10k PLO couldn’t help but laugh at his disinterest in the game

“Jason’s not even paying attention when the game is on,” laughed Sam Stein at one point.

Mercier wasn’t the only well-known player to crack a smile when Lebron hoisted the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, Tristan Wade and Michael Mizrachi are noted Heat fans, but there’s a good chance he made the most money off the victory.

Those crazy Brits.

1) Brits Get Kicked Out for Throwing a Shoe

Sometimes headlines are pretty self-explanatory and this is one of those times.

Craig McCorkell and Roberto Romanello drew a huge rail of U.K. supporters at the final table of Event 36 $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout today.

The supporters were excited, loud and pretty damn inebriated. It was the loudest rail, by far, that we’ve seen at the WSOP this year.

For hours the British fans chanted, sang and raised their shoes (yes that’s right) while cheering on their two horses.

Eventually Romanello busted out of the event but that didn’t lesson the crew’s enthusiasm at all.

In fact that was around the time someone actually threw a shoe. By this point the Brits had become too rowdie for the WSOP to allow them on the rail and promptly sent them packing.

In the end even that wasn’t enough to keep the Brits away as they slowly congregated back at the ESPN stage to watch McCorkell eventually win his first WSOP bracelet.
