Second Chances for Ivey, Hellmuth on WSOP Day 14

Hellmuth and Ivey aren’t the only big names going deep, however, as action continues in four different WSOP events.

Read on for the rundown of all the important action on Day 14 of the 2012 World Series of Poker.

Hellmuth 3/18 in $2,500 RAZZ

With 11 WSOP victories under his belt Phil Hellmuth is the leading all-time bracelet winner at the World Series of Poker.

And he’s got another chance to extend that lead, sitting third in chips with 18 remaining in the $2,500 RAZZ event.

309 players entered this lowball tournament, putting $702,975 in the prize pool and $182,793 on the table for first.

Leading the final 18 is two-time WSOP bracelet winner Brandon Cantu. Third in chips is another WSOP bracelet winner, Chris Viox. He took down the $1,500 Stud Hi-Lo event last year.

Barry Greenstein, Jared “Harrington10” Bleznick, Scott Fischman, Dan O’Brien, Calvin “cal42688” Anderson and Scott Clements round out the Day 3 roster in terms of big names.

This event is scheduled to play down to a winner tonight.

14 players have already been paid in this event including Vladimir Shchemelev (19th), Joe Tehan (23rd), Allen Bari (26th), Sam Grizzle (27th) and Ted Forrest (30th).

Ivey Among Stacked Final 17 in $10k PL Hold’em

PokerListings.com has been shipping full live coverage of the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship but in case you missed it, Phil Ivey is through to another Day 3.

Phil Ivey makes his second Day 3 of the 2012 WSOP.

 

Ivey’s one of the shortstacks with 180,000 (roughly 11 big blinds) and he’s joined by a long list of big poker names.

France’s Manuel Bevand is in the lead while Hoyt Corkins, who made a huge comeback late last night, is sitting in fourth.

Also on the roster are Shaun Deeb, Antonio Esfandiari, Ali Eslami, Andy Frankenberger, Matt Marafioti, Chris Klodnicki and David Benyamine.

Derke, Mirzikinian Lead $5k Limit Hold’em

166 players turned up for the second Limit Hold’em event of the summer and by day’s end Nicholas Derke had built the biggest stack of the 109 who survived.

Sitting second in chips is Warwick Mirzikinian, who finished third in the $5k Mixed Max event a couple weeks ago.

Also through to Day 2 with big stacks are Jerrod Ankenman, Matthew Woodward, Mori Eskandani, Terrence Chan, Matt Glantz and Dario Alioti.

$206,760 is waiting for first place and 18 will be paid. This event is scheduled to reach a winner tomorrow.

262 Remain in $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em

The latest $1,500 No-Limit event drew 2,302, building a pot of over $3.1 million and a first-place prize of $559,514.

262 made it through to Day 2 and biggest among them chip-wise is Jessica Bertrand-Hanna who finished with 149,500.

Also through with bigger-than-average stacks are former November Niner John Dolan, 2010 PCA winner Harrison Gimbel, Brit Ben Vinson, Alex Bolotin and Cliff Josephy.

First Donkament of the Summer Begins

Getting underway today is the first $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em “Donkament” of the 2012 WSOP.

These low buy-in events, aimed at recreational players, typically draw enormous numbers and it’s likely we’ll see the biggest field so far this year crowd into the halls of the Rio this afternoon.

The first $1,000 No-Limit event last year drew an astounding 4,178. Sean Getzwiller outlasted them all, earning his first WSOP bracelet and $611,185.
