Additionally today marked the first time Doyle Brunson played a tournament at the WSOP (you can read more about it here).
In other words it was just another day at the 2012 WSOP.
Check below for the straight truth:
3) Musumeci Falls Painfully Short
Philadelphia’s Amanda Musumeci became the latest female player to come just short of a bracelet on Wedneday.
Musumeci came into the final table of Event 9 $1,500 Re-Entry third in chips but she quickly took over the chip lead and dominated much of the play.
Unfortunately for Musumeci, Canadian Ashkan Razavi pulled away from the rest of the field five-handed and eventually beat her heads-up to take the bracelet and $781,398.
Musumeci did pick up $481,643 for her efforts but she’s got to be frustrated coming that close to a bracelet.
It’s easily the biggest score of Musumeci’s career but she did come in 62nd place in last year’s Main Event for $130,997.
Female players have been on fire at the 2012 WSOP Musumeci’s second place finished marked the sixth time a woman has finished in the top nine of a tournament this year.
Selbst finished in ninth place in the $10k Heads-Up today in addition to having already finished fourth in the first $1,500 event.
Liv Boeree would probably have made a final table too but she did this.
2) Brian Hastings Makes Final Four in $10k Heads-Up
CardRunners instructor Brian “Stinger” Hastings has dominated cash games over the years (including that record-setting $4.2 million win against Isildur1) but has yet to win a WSOP bracelet.
That could change tomorrow as Hastings outlasted some stiff competition to make it into the final four of the $10k Heads-Up championship.
Hastings beat Tommy Vedes, Amritraj Singh and Jeffrey Gross today to secure his seat in Day 3. Meanwhile Vanessa Selbst, Andrew Robl, Chris Moore and Jeffrey Gross all hit the rail.
Tomorrow Hastings will have to get by Tommy Chen to play for a bracelet against the winner of the Jason Mo vs. Brock Parker match. First place will earn $371,498.
We’re live updating this tournament so be sure to check PokerListings tomorrow for up-to-the-minute news about the event.
1) “Yukon” Brad Booth Gets Real
Earlier this week Doug “WCGRider” Polk unleashed a bombshell on the 2+2 poker forum that he loaned $28,000 to TV pro “Yukon” Brad Booth and never got it back.
Today Booth released his answer to Polk, and the poker community at large, in a YouTube video where he admitted to stealing from Polk and gambling the cash away.
He apologizes to everyone involved and says that he is giving up gambling and alcohol and will do whatever he can to make things right.
Read into the following what you will but if Booth is being disingenuous, he’s one hell of an actor.
The video is bleak as hell, depressing and shows the realities of gambling addiction. Proceed at your own risk:
