Jason Mercier Commits to $1M WSOP Big One

The list of players who have committed to playing the $1 million Big One for One drop just got one name longer.

Jason Mercier announced this evening that he would join the 30-something players that have already signed on for the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history.

Mercier tweeted:

Just put down my deposit to play ONE DROP!1 mill buyin ... #Nobigdeal Got one month to sell action I guess. Get at me 1.1 so 11,000 for 1%

So, for 10 percent more than the buy-in to the Main Event you can get one single percentage of Jason Mercier’s buy-in to the Big One.

It might sound ridiculous on the surface but if this event hits the 48-player cap, and Mercier was to win, that one percent would be worth roughly $180,000.

And if the rumors are true, we might hear another announcement Tuesday evening from Jean-Robert Bellande. JRB announced via Twitter that he’d be making an announcement Tuesday evening. And no, the redundancy of announcing an announcement is not lost on us.

PokerListings Ships ‘On Demand’ Coverage of $10k Heads-Up

The first $10,000 Championship event of this year’s WSOP begins Tuesday and PokerListings.com is continuing our unique new take on live coverage with a format we call “On Demand”.

When the bracket is set tomorrow at noon we’ll post the matchups on PokerListings.com and our readers will have the opportunity to vote via Twitter to decide which match we’ll cover from start to finish.

Traditionally the big buy-in heads-up events at the WSOP draw extremely pro-heavy crowds so there will be no shortage of big matches to choose from.

We’re expecting Phil Ivey to play, and if our market research is any indication that’s probably the match that will get voted in.

To get in on the voting simply follow PokerListings on Twitter and chime in tomorrow around noon Vegas time.

Last year’s Heads-Up Championship boasted a $25k buy-in and was won by Brit Jake Cody. He defeated Yevgeniy Timoshenko in the final to win $851,000 and the final piece in his Triple Crown.

2006 Champ Jamie Gold Incoming

Thanks to Twitter it’s easy to keep track of people’s movements, without it we wouldn’t know that the 2006 world champion of poker is joining us at the 2012 WSOP.

Jamie Gold is the current record-holder for the biggest prize ever won at a poker tournament, thanks to the $12 million he took down six years ago.

But that's a record that will almost certainly be broken this year at the $1 million Big One.

Gold tweeted that he’s coming to Vegas to host cash games at his namesake room at the Tropicana (with buy-ins as low as $100) and to play eight WSOP events.

Gold will kick off his WSOP schedule with the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship on Friday.
