Christensen, a 27-year-old with just three previous live cashes, turned his online satellite qualification for the WPT Vienna main event into €313,390 with an impressive performance.
He took over the chip lead on Day 2 and managed to carry it all the way through to the title, overcoming final table chip leader Ognjen Sekularac and former EPT Berlin champ Ben Wilonfosky over a seven-hour final table.
Christensen finished off his win by defeating Konstantin Tolokno heads-up. Tolokno earned €191,740 for his runner-up finish.
Christensen follows in the footsteps of Frederik Jensen (EPT Madrid), Mickey Petersen (EPT Copenhagen) and Jannick Wrang (EPT Campione) as Danish title winners in just the last two months.
Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilonofsky Out in Third
If there was a favorite coming in to the final table it was likely Wilinofsky.
Despite finishing at the bottom of last week’s Party Poker Premier League, Wilonofsky is still a former EPT Berlin champ and one of the most respted players online with over $2.7 million in career earnings.
Coming in to the final table he also had the third biggest chip stack, but that was as high as he'd get.
Making it to three-handed play in good position, Wilonofsky still looked to be the favorite despite Christenson’s chip lead but couldn't gain ground. He eventually fell out in third when his up-and-down straight draw couldn’t fade Christenson's flush draw.
Wilonofsky adds €122,910 to his career earnings pile.
Sekularac, the chip leader heading into the final table, crashed out in fourth for €62,680.
