Last month PokerStars bumped the guarantee to £1 million and added an extra Day 1 to accommodate extra players.
Midway through Day 1a there are already over 500 runners including noted pros Pieter de Korver, Marc Goodwin and Paul Jackson.
To meet the £1 million guarantee the tournament will have to hit 1,400 runners. If UKIPT Nottingham does meet those numbers it will make its way into the record books as the biggest tournament ever held in England.
“The UKIPT has seen huge growth year on year, and the £1 million guarantee cements our position as the premium live poker tour in the UK & Ireland,” said UKIPT president Kirsty Thompson.
Last year Gareth Walker outlasted a record-breaking 1,058-player field at UKIPT Nottingham to walk away with a £109,000 first-place prize.
Day 1b begins tomorrow at noon while the final starting day – Day 1c – kicks off at noon on Thursday. The entire tournament runs until April 16 with the winner likely walking away with one of the biggest prizes ever awarded on the UKIPT.
It’s getting down to the wire but it’s still possible to qualify for the UKIPT Nottingham event on PokerStars.
