Some of the best poker players in the world will return to Manila next month to play in the super-high roller Triton Poker Series.
The series will center around a HK$500,000 buy-in Main Event but there will also be a HK$200,000 buy-in 6-max warm-up event.
Asian poker site SoMuchPoker got Winfred Yu, president of Poker King Club, to confirm that Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Dan “jungleman” Cates, John Juanda and Mustapha Kanit will play.
The series will run from Nov. 3-4, 2016, in the Poker King Club in Solaire Casino Resort in Manila.
Businessmen Return for Super High Roller
No names were given but once again there are expected to be a large contingent of businessmen from Hong Kong and Mainland China in the tournament.
More poker pros will be announce in the coming weeks.
In addition to the cash games there will be some massive cash games and Yu confirmed that last Triton Cup there was a regularly game that ran, which required a minimum buy-in of HK$10 million (US$1.29m).
The inclusion of Tom Dwan and Dan Cates is particularly interesting for anyone that follows poker as the pair have been involved in a feud about the long-defunct “durrrr Challenge” for years.
Neither player has publicly stated the challenge is officially over.
No word yet as to whether last year’s HK$3.4 million winner (and recently "retired") Fedor Holz will return to defend his title in Manila.
Interestingly there are plans to expand the Triton Series with a charity event in Perth on Dec. 8-9 this year.
