One of the biggest brands in poker has thrown its weight behind the Global Poker League.
The GPL announced today that PokerStars has signed on to become a lead and exclusive online poker sponsor of the league.
Which exactly will the sponsorship entail?
That seems still to be to determined, with "a number of promotional initiatives" planned to "connect both existing and prospective poker fans to the GPL."
Support of PokerStars a "Crucial Step"
PokerStars is already a sponsor of the European and American Poker Awards, two other initiatives of the GPL's parent company, Mediarex.
PokerStars pros Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree, Vanessa Selbst, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, Celina Lin and Randy Lew are also already players in the League.
“The Global Poker League brings an innovative team-based twist to poker," said Eric Hollreiser, PokerStars’ Director of Corporate Communications in a release, "and we are happy to support Mediarex in their quest to bring poker to new audiences."
“We are optimistic about this partnership," says GPL CEO Alex Dreyfus, "having the support of PokerStars is a crucial step forward on the road to fully establishing the GPL as a real blueprint for poker entertainment in the future.
"PokerStars offers us a multitude of opportunities to grow our platform and continue developing our two-fold strategy of connecting the League to the poker community and genuinely connecting poker to the mainstream entertainment sector on a large scale.”
The iconic PokerStars spade will now appear on the GPL signature playing arena, the Cube, and GPL matches will also now be live streamed on PokerStars.tv.
