Beating out a handful of other big stacks for the chip lead, Summers pocketed the $10,000 bonus reserved for the overnight chip leader.

Summers stacked 188,000, more than any of his Day 1B opponents but a far cry from the 245,000 that Day 1A chip leader Bryce Yockey takes into tomorrow.

Joining Summers at the top of the Day 1B charts are former WPT winner Taylor von Kriegenbergh with 181,300 and UK pro Max Silver with 155,000.

Also spending their time productively were Tommy Vedes and Michael Mizrachi who finished in the top ten, along with JC Tran, Marvin Rettenmaier and Allen Cunningham.

And although the stack sizes descend from there, the talent does not.

Tom Marchese
Tom Marchese is through to Day 2.

Through to Day 2 with more than the 72,800 average are JJ Liu, Joe Elpayaa, Joe Serock, ElkY Grospellier and Marco Johnson.

Stacking up a little shorter with less than average are Tom Marchese, Linda Johnson, Shawn Buchanan, David Williams, Justin Young, William Reynolds, Todd Terry and Gavin Griffin.

Recent WPT LA Poker Classic runner-up David Sands is also through.

Day 2 is scheduled to begin at 10:45am PT at the Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, and will play either seven levels or down to the final 18, whichever comes first.

149 players remain after two Day 1 flights.

Just Shy of a Million for First

364 players in total contributed their $10,000 buy-ins to put $960,900 on the table for the winner.

36 players in total will get paid with the payouts starting at $16,000.

Those numbers are down slightly from the 415 that entered in 2011. One year ago Alan Sternberg took down $1,039,000 when he defeated Steven Kelly heads-up.

Shooting Stars Burn Out

Of the 27 Shooting Stars that played today, 14 made it through to Day 2. They’ll join the five bounties that advanced from Day 1A.

The survivors who will carry their bounties into Day 2 include Michael Mizrachi, JC Tran, Allen Cunningham, Marvin Rettenmaier, David Williams, Linda Johnson, Fabrice Soulier, Scott Seiver, Nam Le, Antonio Esfandiari, Chau Giang, Jason Mercier and Men “The Master” Nguyen.

Other Shooting Stars didn’t fare so well.

Defending Bay 101 Shooting Star champ Alan Sternberg had a price on his head today, ultimately collected by UK pro Max Silver. Sternberg lost a big preflop all-in race with A-Q against pocket tens.

Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov’s bounty went to Michael Wywrot. That was Wywrot’s second $5,000 bonus of the day after busting Todd Brunson before breaking for dinner.

Also busted today was Epic Poker League champion Chino Rheem, handing his $5k bounty and a signed tee-shirt to Tu Dinh.

Another November Niner, Matt Giannetti, also went broke. His stack and bounty was inherited by Tyler Patterson.

The list of other Shooting Stars to give up the ghost includes Barry Greenstein, Erick Lindgren, Jennifer Harman, Mike Sexton, Chris Moorman, Ben Lamb, Allen Bari, Scotty Nuyen and Freddy Deeb.
