The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a surgical mask, a plumber's snake and all the intestinal fortitude needed to unclog the afternoon poker news pipes.
Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Drops us a line in the comments and let us know.
Today in the 3-Bet we find a massive Florida poker party coming up this weekend, Dan "Jungleman" Cates loses big in Manila and Christian Lusardi gets nailed for chip fraud.
1) $7.5m Big Four Begins
We're still in the midst of poker's annual August lull but that's about to change with the start of tomorrow's $5m Guaranteed, $5,250 Main Event at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The ME is part of a $7.5m "Big Four" spectacular billed as the "first-ever four-event finale" that will play out on Tues. Aug. 18.
Along with the main event final table with $1m guaranteed for the winner three other events - a $25,400 High Roller and $2,650/$1,100 side events - will play down at the same time.
All will be live streamed and later broadcast on the CBS Sports Network - which is pretty awesome if you're looking for a summer poker fix before the WSOP on ESPN begins in earnest.
Based on the early returns it looks like the field(s) will be jammed with big names. The Charity Series of Poker event also looks like it'll go off. More details/live updates from SHRPO here.
2) Jungleman Drops $38m (HKD) in Manila
Yep, it's $38m HKD. But with a rough exchange rate making that around $5m USD that's gonna hurt the bankroll anyway you slice it.
Still, Jungleman doesn't seem too bothered by it:
Sooo manila didn't go well, only lost about 38m hkd(5m usd)... Gonna play some 5/10 online and take another shot
— Daniel Cates (@junglemandan) August 13, 2015As we mentioned last week some of that action must have been against Tom "durrrr" Dwan so it could just be a "virtual" $5m or portion thereof -- ie. money accrued as debt from their defunct durrrr Challenge.
3) Lusardi Pleads Guilty, Faces Five Years for "Mischief"
A full 19 months after Christian Lusardi famously flushed $2.7m in fake poker chips down his hotel room toilet, he's finally plead guilty.
Lusardi appeared in court on Thursday in Atlantic City and plead to charges of "trademark counterfeiting and criminal mischief" for his actions at the 2014 Winter Poker Open at Borgata.
He now faces up to five years in jail plus the five years he received in a separate case for DVD bootlegging.
On top of the possible jail time Lusardi has to pay the Borgata, where $800k in bogus chips were discovered on Day 2 of the WPO, $463,540 for lost tournament revenue.
Evoking images of Home Alone's famed Sticky Bandits Lusardi flushed over 500 chips down the toilet at his nearby Harrah's hotel room which clogged the pipes and backed up sewage lines.
Another 22 were found in a Borgata men's room which caused the cancellation of the ongoing tournament.
Lusardi will be sentenced Oct. 22. More from Reuters here.
