After jumping to a $353k profit on PokerStars early in 2012, Galfond then went on a soul-crushing downswing that saw him lose more than a million in late January.
Galfond announced on his blog that he would be leaving Vancouver, Canada, (where he can play online poker) for a period of time and would move down in stakes until he was better rolled to play the nosebleeds.
He returned to Canada earlier this week and last night made the first step towards erasing his considerable losses on PokerStars.
Galfond recorded 3,368 hands last night and walked away with a $117k profit. He played numerous hands of $25/$50 PLO but also moved up briefly to the $100/$200 where he made the majority of his profit.
“Hope the extended break killed my run-bad,” he wrote via his Twitter handle @PhilGalfond.
Jeans89 Keeps Killing It
A close second to Galfond in profit last night was the relentless Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen who added $116k in 970 hands.
Kyllonen is the biggest winner in online poker this year and after last night’s session is up to an impressive $1.86 million in profit in 2012.
Some of the other winners from last night included Davin “mTw-DaviN” Georgi ($85,286), MaiseE ($66,521) and Sauce123 ($55,212).
The night wasn’t as kind to online player doncarignano who received a world-class thumping and lost a total of $286k in 1,284 hands.
Interestingly Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo, who appears to be playing from Toronto, was active in the high stakes games last night. It didn’t exactly go according to plan as the former Bodog pro dropped $86,817.
Some of the other players who fell into the black included Vaga_Lion (-$74k), Ben “milkybarkid” Grundy ($64k) and LuckyGump (-$54k).
