PokerStars announced on Friday it has added a $51,000 Super High Roller to the 2015 World Championship of Online Poker schedule, set to run Sept. 20.
The prize pool is guaranteed at $1m but given the growing popularity of Super High Roller events worldwide will more than likely smash that.
The buy-in will officially be the biggest-ever offered online, superseding the $25k events held in the WCOOP a couple of years ago.
Negreanu, Mercier Confirmed; 40+ Players Expected
Already confirmed for the event, unsurprisingly, are two of the highest-profile PokerStars pros in Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier.
Never ones to shy away from a nosebleed buy-in both are coming off fairly spectacular summers at the 2015 WSOP.
Despite slow starts for both of them Mercier went on to bag his third career bracelet and Negreanu gave the poker world a thrill ride with his 11th-place Main Event finish.
Mercier is the more experienced online poker pro but Negreanu has certainly upped his online game when given the opportunity.
"I think it only makes sense that the world's largest poker site is also the host of the largest buy-in online poker tournament ever," Negreanu said in a release.
"I'm excited to test my skills against the best of the best, online."
The $50k Super High Roller event will run one week before the marquee event of the entire WCOOP, the $5,200 Main Event.
Satellites are currently running for the $10m Guaranteed event on PokerStars for as low as $1.
