Today in the 3-Bet we find Daniel Negreanu lamenting his Main Event mistakes, Martin Jacobson weighs in with important advice for the 2015 November Nine and Max Steinberg's ROI is the stuff dreams are made of.
1) DNegs: My Two Mistakes
It's safe to say 95% of the poker world - and likely that much of the crowd in the Amazon Room itself - were devastated when Daniel Negreanu fell just short of the 2015 WSOP November Nine.
When Negreanu's knees buckled and he hit the floor after that river Queen filled up Joe McKeehen's straight the air literally and figuratively was sucked out of the room.
Was it a mistake not to shove his A4 before the flop? Well, that's one for the message boards. We're not going to question Daniel Negreanu's decision-making.
Daniel himself, on the other hand, somehow found enough distance already to take stock of his play and evaluate two plays he felt were small mistakes.
Does he think not shoving there was a mistake?
"I think for most people that is absolutely true, but not for me, and not in that situation."
So there you have it. The two mistakes he does feel he made are also a fascinating look at high-level decision-making by a true pro at the height of the game's most intense pressure. Read the full post here.
2) Jacobson's Advice: Get Started Now
For those who did go on to make the 2015 November Nine, last year's champ Martin Jacobson had some simple and pointed advice for them:
Congrats to this years Nov 9! My only advice: start preparing yesterday.
— Martin Jacobson (@Martin_Jacobson) July 16, 2015Personally, if we just locked in $1m and had four months off before playing the biggest final table of our lives, we'd be on a banana boat in the Caribbean with Pierre Neuville, Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly right about now.
Given how things worked out for Jacobson, though, probably best to go his route.
3) How to Turn $27 into $1m w/ DeMarcus Cousins and Warriors Bench
Even if you dropped $10,000 of your very own money on your Main Event buy-in, securing $1m and a spot in the greatest final table in poker will put your overall ROI for the year at pretty much Dan Colman levels.
If you did it by spending $27 on an NBA Daily Fantasy satellite with a roster made up of DeMarcus Cousins and the Golden State bench?
That's the stuff dreams are made of. And that's exactly what 2015 November Niner Max Steinberg did.
Already a WSOP bracelet winner Steinberg and his brother Danny scaled way back on poker this year to go all in on Daily Fantasy and the results, as they say, speak for themselves.
