Mateos has absolutely crushed the live tournament circuit in the last two years, winning two of the biggest poker events in the world and racking up $3.47 million in total earnings.
Mateos says the success hasn't changed all that much for him.
“Before the EPT in Monte Carlo and the WSOPE in France, I had enough money to live the way I want,” Mateos told PokerListings.com.
“It hasn't changed too much except you can take a good holiday or buy something that you want.
“But I have the same friends and the same people. I have a big group of friends outside of poker, from high school. They're feeling good for me about my life because it's something different. Every time I win a big prize I have a big party or dinner or something.
“I promised them that if I make the November Nine all of them will come here to rail me. So they really want me to make it.”

Mateos beat veteran French pro Fabrice Soulier heads-up to take the WSOP Europe Main Event in 2013 and he had to make it through Dominik Nitsche, Benny Spindler and Shannon Shorr at the final table just to get there.
He snagged €1 million for the win.
In Monte Carlo he ran through a final table that included Johnny Lodden and Ole Schemion to win the EPT Grand Final and another €1 million.
Mateos says his parents are his biggest fans and follow him when he's playing online and via Twitter and the poker media when he's at live events.
“When I won a million the first time in France my parents thought it was amazing,” said Mateos. “It's hard to explain but they felt really good.
“My parents really want me to win because they know it's important to me. It's good to know they like it.”
Mateos ultimately busted in 750th place in his first WSOP Main Event, good for a $15,000 paycheck.
