On Saturday, Brian Hastings became the first player of the summer to win two bracelets.

Hastings, who has several side bets this summer, got company sooner than anyone expected.

Just two events later Pescatori made a final table that included Daniel Negreanu, Stephen Chidwick and Gary Benson.

Pescatori started the final table third in chips but was chipped down to just a handful of big bets when play got three-handed.

Three-Handed Ninja

But Pescatori has a pretty good three-handed record at the WSOP.

Three-handed against Pescatori? You got no shot.

“One fun stat that I was telling them when I got short,” said Pescatori, “is that I've never finished third and I've never finished second.

“When I've gotten three-handed I've always won. Now I'm four and 0 being three-handed.”

When play got three-handed Negreanu and Chidwick didn’t want to take a dinner break but Pescatori insisted.

Pescatori says that that break helped him refocus.

It was like a boxing match, Pescatori said. He got beat up the first round and needed to regroup and relax before the second round.

The second round went well.

Pescatori: "If you can hang on, you can come back."

“I started three-handed and I got pretty unlucky right away,” said Pescatori. “But I know that it's a game where if you can hang on, you can come back.”

Pescatori then came back and chipped away at Negreanu before eliminating him.

Chidwick still had the lead when heads-up play started but then Pescatori quickly took it over. Pescatori never let go and denied Chidwick his first WSOP bracelet.

While Pescatori made it look simple, he says it was anything but.

“One was half the world’s favorite player,” said Pescatori.

"And the other was such a good player that even [during the $25K Fantasy Draft] I was trying to get him but everybody knew how good he was.”

Pre-WSOP Preparation

Pescatori was confident in his Stud Hi/Lo game though.

“I practiced this game for months before coming to the WSOP,” said Pescatori. “And I really thought this was my best shot before the WSOP.

“Last year I started preparing one month before but this year I started preparing since February.

"Stud Hi/Lo was the game I played and studied the most. It's a fantastic feeling when you put in the work and it comes in an amazing result like this.”

With a second bracelet this summer Pescatori is now considering chasing the 2015 WSOP Player of the Year title.

“I'm certainly thinking about it,” said Pescatori. “The ranking system now is different so I have to see where I'm standing.

“But to have the picture up there, forever, nobody can take that away.”
