Playing the $5k No-Limit Hold'em 8-max event, #25 on the schedule, Nitsche had to navigate one of the toughest fields of the Series.
As Jason Somerville put it, he had “to deal with some of the best players in the world” at the final table, among them Dan O’Brien, Jonathan Little, Jonathan Jaffe and WPT Player of the Year Anthony Zinno.
After a hard-fought final table Nitsche came within two spots of continuing his bracelet-winning streak that began last year and winning his 4th bracelet at the World Series of Poker.
An Efficient German Machine
Nitsche managed to survive 491 runners in an event that paid out $2.3 million to the ITM players.
“There wasn’t much more I could have done today," Nitsche told PokerListings after the tournament. “I’m pretty excited with my third-place finish.”
Nitsche went into 3-handed play as the short stack and never found a spot to double up in. He finally fell with J♣ 6♥ against Pierre Milan’s K♠ 8♦, but didn’t fret about it for too long:
slightly unhappy with my bust out hand but other than that I think I played really well. thanks for the support everyone #888wsop #888poker

Nitsche's deep run was followed by fans and pros high and low including former November Niner Joseph Cheong.

Only a Matter of Time Until Next One
Nitsche won two bracelets last year including the main event of the WSOP Circuit National Championship.
By the sounds of his latest Facebook entry, where he wrote “made my first final table of this year’s WSOP," it's likely only a question of time before he gets there again.
