In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Phil Hellmuth claiming LeBron James is an elite poker player, REG getting some mainstream attention and Gaëlle Baumann crushing an opponent at the 2012 WSOP.

1) Hellmuth Says Lebron Has Poker Chops

Phil Hellmuth talks alot about playing poker with professional athletes but dropped a bombshell yesterday on Twitter when he ranked some of the best current and former NBA stars who also play poker.

Hellmuth said that Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley were the former “toughest” poker players.

Currently Hellmuth ranks LeBron James, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Russel Westbrook, Kevin Durant and half the Golden State Warriors as the elite card players.

Is it an accurate assessment? Who knows. Jordan, Johnson and Barkley were known to play poker but it’s not clear if they were any good.

As for his modern-day picks it sure seems convenient that the biggest names in the game are also the best poker players.

Also a pretty bad snub of Paul Pierce who’s almost a reg at the WSOP at this point.

2) REG Charity Featured in New Book

The REG charity initiative, which was founded by poker pros, is pretty much the most “poker” charity ever using effective altruism to give funding to people who deserve it.

Well it’s starting to hit the big time.

Noted philosopher Peter Singer featured Philipp Gruissem and the REG initiative in his new book The Most Good You Can Do.

Singer pointed out Gruissem’s dissatisfaction with simply winning truckloads of cash in poker tournaments and his desire to actually contribute in a positive way to society.

Hopefully it’s just the beginning of more wide-spread recognition for REG.

3) WSOP Throwback: “You Lost Bro!”

Remember 2012?

Back when there were two women in WSOP Main Even with just 11 players left?

It was an exciting time… until Elisabeth Hille and Gaëlle Baumann busted 11th and 10th respectively absolutely gutting poker fans around the world.

It was a lot of fun before that point, however, and one of the sweetest moments was seeing Baumann river a nut flush to shock Aussie David Balkin.

Unfortunately for Balkin he thought he won the hand with a set and immediately did a fist pump.

“What are you doing? You lost bro,” exclaimed Robert Salaburu.
