Mercier winning a relatively small $2,000 8-Game tournament for $18,000 seems even less notable.
But when you make your final two opponents concede when they still have chips in front of them ... that's worth noting at least a little.
That's just what Mercier did to claim his first live tourney win of the year yesterday at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Showdown.
Precursor to $5m Main Event Tomorrow
According to the PokerStars blog and SHRPO live reporter Al Rash, with just two spots paid and three players left Mercier had a dominating lead.
Mercier had 225,000 of the chips in play while second and third-place had 13,000 and 8,600, respectively.
Opponents Ben Yogel and Marcello Costa felt so outmatched, in fact, Rash says they simply agreed to split the second-place money and give Mercier the win.
So much for 'a chip and a chair.' Either way Mercier was happy:
Won it ! Nice to get my first live win of the year under my belt. This was the first tournament of many I'll be playing in the next 3 months
