For the first few nights we had a drifter who slept on the couch. His name was Marvin Rettenmaier (he hadn’t earned the nickname "Mad" yet).

I will always remember that he didn’t seem to have a suitcase. It seemed like the only possession he owned in the world was his guitar.

And in the words of David Bowie, “Boy, could he play guitar.”

Warren Lush calls him the next Ed Sheeran so who better to speak to for the first edition of "Soundtrack of a Poker Life" than Mad Marvin Rettenmaier.

What's the first song that you remember?

Marvin Rettenmaier
Before he mas Mad, just a drifter with a guitar and a felt hat.

It was a song about ducks called "Alle Meine Entchen."

What was the first song that you fell in love to?

The first song where I was listening to it, over and over again, after falling in love, was 'Sail Away' by David Gray.

It was completely random, I didn’t know what the song meant at the time. But I heard it when I met her and I just seemed to keep hearing it all of the time.

What was the first single you bought?

There were a couple that I remember, but one of them was 'Mr. President' by Coco Jambo.

The sickest thing was, two years ago, I was thinking, ‘why isn’t this song playing anymore?’ then two weeks later I walked into a club and they played it.

What was your first ever album?

It was a German hip-hop album by Afrob, called 'Rolle Mit Hip Hop.'

What song always has you grabbing for the hairbrush microphone?

There are so many, but I do have two that I am really into at the moment.

One is ‘Rock & Roll’ by Eric Hutchinson, and the other is ‘Domino’ by Chris Hordijk.

What is your favorite karaoke song?

That will be ‘Let Her Cry’ by Hootie and The Blowfish. I love Darius Rucker’s voice.

What’s your favorite slow dance song?

{At this time in the interview Marvin plays ‘Turn Back Time’ by Cher. I get an image of her in a mankini and promptly vomit on my laptop.}

What’s the song that gets you on the dance floor?

Marvin Rettenmaier
Has a thing for Hootie.

‘Boom! Shake the Room’ by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.

What’s your favorite sexy time song?

I don’t want to show off or anything, but there is more than one song.

I do have my go-to playlist for those moments. It’s very dependent on the woman actually.

I like Drake, but I also have this mix that I play a lot – ‘The White Panda - Bambooyah!’

Obviously, Marvin Gaye ‘Let’s Get it On,’ and I also like ‘Freak Me’ by Another Level.

What song lyrics are currently going through your head right now?

‘Freak Me’ by Another Level … but before that, it was the lyrics to ‘Rock & Roll’ by Eric Hutchinson.

What was your first-ever gig?

It was a Jonny Lang concert in Minnesota.

What was your best-ever gig?

That’s a tough one … wow … it was Elton John. I saw him in Stuttgart and he had this whole gospel choir with him.

My favorite part of the show was when they played ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me?’

What was your worst gig?

Britney Spears in Vegas this year. There was no life in her and it was very sad.

We didn’t think she would be good but we thought it would be fun. It was so sad you couldn’t even laugh at it.

What is your favorite music video?

T-Pain and Lil Wayne ‘Can’t Believe It.’ I like the effects I guess.

(At this point I remind Marvin that he has so many sexy songs I assumed his favorite video would feature a sexy woman.)

When all is said and done, Rocket Man should do it.

In that case, it has to be Jessica Simpson, ‘These Boots are Made for Walking.” I watch that a lot J

Who are your favorite artists/bands?

There are so many throughout the years, but I currently like Ed Sheeran and Jason Mraz.

What song would you play at your wedding?

I haven’t really thought about that one, but if I learn how to dance by then I would like to do one of those medleys.

What song will be played at your funeral?

I think I would want it to be something a little more upbeat like ‘Rocket Man’ by Elton John.
