Ultimate Poker, the online arm of Ultimate Gaming and Station Casinos, announced today it is ending its Nevada-based operations.

The poker site had been in operation for 19 months.

Ultimate Gaming also ceased operations in New Jersey, one of only two other states with regulated online poker, in September.

Shutdown Underway, Repayment Process Begins

In a statement this morning, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports, Ultimate Gaming Chairman Tom Breitling said the "path to profitablity" was just too unsure, leading to the shutdown.

The slow process of state-by-state legislation, Breitling says, “has created an extremely cost-prohibitive and challenging operating environment.

“These factors have combined to make the path to profitability very difficult and uncertain. Consequently, we have decided to cease operations.

"We are working closely with the Gaming Control Board to ensure a smooth transition for our customers as we cease Nevada operations."

Players with current balances at UltimatePoker are being asked to go online at ultimatepoker.com and speak with the Customer Support team.

Five affiliated poker sites in Northern Nevada using the Ultimate Poker software platform will also close. No delays are expected in the player repayment process at this time.

Ultimate Poker staff and pros Dan O'Brien and Danielle Andersen were notified of the shutdown this morning.

Ultimate Poker and its ambassadors tried hard to create a unique, entertaining poker environment and I'm proud of the steps we made.

Unfortunately, our shortcomings combined with single state legislation and over-regulation was a storm we weren't able to ride out.

I look forward to a day when all Americans are free to play the game they love from the comfort of their own homes. #FreeOnlinePoker
