The World Series of Poker Europe is making its first appearance in Germany next year.
Just as the last hands of the 2014 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas played out an announcement was made that, at first glance, looks a little surprising.
The World Series of Poker Europe’s next stop is going to be the German capital of Berlin:

It was roughly one year ago that WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart announced a new rotational system for the WSOP's two subsidiary events - Europe and Asia-Pacific.
According to that decision the World Series would no longer take place on both continents every year but alternate instead.
The reasoning, organizers said, was to make sure they could have “better organization and more marketing” and “a single global showcase that can’t be missed.
It has been difficult for the WSOP to find an adequate location for the European WSOP for years. Former locations include the Casino at the Empire in London, the Majestic Barrière in Cannes and the Casino Barrière in Enghien-les-Bains close to Paris.
Constantly moving the event across Europe might be one of the reasons why the WSOPE doesn’t have the standing it might have despite illustrious winners of the main event.
The inaugural WSOPE saw the rise of a young poker star called Annette Obrestad and later title winners were John Juanda and Phil Hellmuth.
Small Surprise to See Berlin Named
The decision comes as a small surprise as the European Poker Tour has removed the Berlin stop from its schedule for the current season.
The EPT took place in Berlin twice in the Hyatt Hotel next to Potsdamer Platz.
As of yet the WSOP has not determined where the event will take place, although it’s been leaked that it is going to be a hotel.
