That, of course, didn’t bother Viktor Blom.
Playing virtually all the time the Swede first went on a $600k winning streak before losing almost all of it again before the end of the week.
German player SanIker had a straight-up disastrous week while Alexander Kostritsyn added another $400k to his growing bankroll.
SanIker gets crushed by Isildur at 2-7
When the action seems to slow down at the high stakes there's always one player you can rely on.
Viktor Isildur1 Blom’s lust for the game is just as strong as ever. Of course it helps when he’s winning. And win he did in the early days of last week.
On Monday he met the opponent who was going to give his bankroll a decent boost: SanIker.
Somehow the German player has managed to keep his identity secret, although he’s been playing a tremendous amount of hands. Unfortunately for him that doesn’t automatically mean he’s winning.
On October 6 he lost his first $100k of the week and it only took two hours before that money went into the bankroll of Blom. On Tuesday he followed up with another loss, this time of $300k.
After a four-hour session, Blom was done with SanIker for the day. The Swede then went on to crush Cort thecortster Kibler-Melby and Sebastian taktloss47 Ruthenberg, finishing with a profit of more than $600k.
But Viktor Blom always lives up to his nickname, the “King of Swings." Several long sessions against Mikael Thuritz, Ruthenberg and unknown player Carlooo13 and was left with just $140k on the plus side.
At least that was enough to secure him a spot in the weekly top 5 leaderboard.
Kostritsyn Tops Leaderboard Yet Again
Alexander Kostritsyn was one of the players who profited from Blom’s downfall. Playing mixed games he took $200k from the Swede and made sure he had another winning week in the bag.
He added another $171k on his joiso account on PokerStars to improve his week even more.
Not too long ago the 26 year old Muscovite was known to be a high-tempered player who would easily go on tilt. But now he seems to be much more in control. He doesn’t play too many hours, and he doesn’t try to exploit his upswings for too long.
In addition to that he has very good, very focused game selection. It doesn’t make him millions of dollars in a day but it does make him a steady winner.
In 2014 his winnings have amounted to more than $4m, by far the most of all online high-stakes players.
Biggest Hand of the Week
For a change the PLO tables hosted the largest pot played online last week.
On Friday Mikael punting-peddler Thuritz and Viktor Isildur1 Blom met for a long heads-up session at a mixed-game table.
During this session they played all five of the biggest hands of the week. The limits were $300/$600 and the hand that turned out to be the biggest started out pretty much the usual way.
After a raise from Thruitz and a 3-bet from Blom $10k was in the middle before the flop fell
Blom took the lead with a bet of $7k and the other Swede at the table called.
Blom barrelled a second time, now $19k. Thuritz stuck to his plan and made a second call. The river was the
The third club on the board seemed to slow down the King of Swings. He just checked and now it was Thuritz who made a big polarizing bet of $54k.
Blom had only $69k left in front of him. Very unusual for him, he opted to just call. Apparently he had serious concerns about being still ahead.
The showdown showed that Blom’s gut feeling was correct. Thuritz showed:
for the flush. Blom mucked his hand and the $170k pot went over to the punting-peddler.
