Dan Colman has figured out something about tournament poker - and especially big buy-in, small field events - no one else has yet.
Colman added to his increasingly phenomenal 2014 again tonight in London by winning the WPT Alpha8 for £600,000, beating German Max Altergott heads-up.
With the current exchange rate that puts Colman's score around $957,390 USD - just barely missing yet another seven-figure score.
Add it to his previous winnings over the past six months and that puts Colman over $22m in earnings for the year - easily the highest-earning ever in tournament poker.
Shakerchi Third, Haxton Fourth
With the ongoing WSOP APAC drawing potential players like Daniel Negreanu away and Phil Ivey - although currently in London to appear in court for his edge-sorting case with Crockfords Casino - in dispose, the field stayed fairly small.
A total of 23 entries were registered from 17 unique players, creating a £1,334,000.
As always the Germans were out in force with Phil Gruissem, Igor Kurganov, Fabian Quoss and Christoph Vogelsong all buying in.
Altergott was the only one to cash, though, making £350,000 for his runner-up finish (although he, along with Colman, did have to buy in twice).
Finishing third was London hedge fund titan and increasingly adept poker pro Talal Shakerchi. Team PokerStars pro Isaac Haxton finished fourth.
