In today’s 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Jeff Lisandro winning his sixth bracelet, Greg Merson’s epic journey to Australia and Jonathan Duhamel calling Melbourne the best city on earth.
Lisandro Does Aussies Proud, Wins 6th Bracelet
Maybe there is home court advantage in poker.
Jeff Lisandro, one of the most successful Australian poker players, secured his sixth WSOP bracelet in the rapid-fire finalé of the $1.6k PLO earlier today.
It took less than three hours to Lisandro to overcome the final table of six players and claim the bracelet and AUD$51,660.
Lisandro holds third on the Australian all-time money list with $5.3 million in tournament earnings and got a little bit closer to Jeff Rossiter who has $5.5 million, mostly thanks to his huge GDAM score in Macau in 2013.
Lisandro still is leaps ahead of the other Australian poker players in regards to bracelets, however, as the closest competition — Mel Judah — only had two.
Perhaps the best part of it? Even the “Iceman” had to crack a smile for his winner’s photo.
It didn’t last long though, as he immediately put his game face back on and registered the $5k PLO event downstairs.
Greg Merson’s Brutal Trip to Australia
Traveling from North America to Australia is going to take a long time. There’s just no way around it. But Greg Merson’s trip to this year’s WSOP APAC was so long it’s almost unbelievable.
Merson was supposed to arrive much, much earlier at the 2014 WSOP APAC.
His journey began in Baltimore on Oct. 2. He was supposed to arrive in Australia 25 hours later.
Instead this is what he was in for:
Flight delayed in Baltimore Flight to Melbourne from LAX canceled twice Flight from LAX to Melbourne rerouted to Hawaii due to engine Flight from Honolulu to Melbourne canceled Flight from Honolulu finally arrives in Melbourne
And that’s how you spend 70+ hours going from the east coast of the United States to Australia. Fortunately Merson finally took his seat in the $5k PLO tonight and appeared surprisingly well rested.
Jonathan Duhamel is All About Melbourne
We talked to Jonathan Duhamel today about hockey, poker, Macau and all sorts of things but one thing that was really clear was just how much he loves the city of Melbourne.
Check out the SoundCloud clip of Duhamel below of why he decided to skip Europe and head down under this year:
