In today’s 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Liv Boeree’s social media mastery, Johnny Chan’s jump shot and the end of Shane Schleger’s Dope Stories podcast.
1) Liv Boeree = Social Media Powerhouse
PokerStars recently assessed top poker players using FollowerWonk and Likealyzer to see who created the most social buzz through Facebook and Twitter.
It was no surprise that social-media master Daniel Negreanu had the most influence and Phil Ivey was second, but Liv Boeree definitely raised some eyebrows in third place.
That’s above “Poker Brat” Phil Hellmuth or high-stakes killer Jason Mercier.
Curious what makes Boeree stand out? It’s certainly helpful that she travels extensively and actually goes out and gets into hijinx while documenting everything with videos and photos.
The English Team PokerStars Pro also posts a fair amount to Vine, which wasn’t taken into account by the audit, so she might have placed even higher.
Who else is popular? Joe Hachem and Jason Mercier round out the top five in fourth and fifth respectively. Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Trickett and Jonathan Duhamel are all in the top 10. Interestingly Hellmuth just barely made it into the top 10.
2) Johnny Chan Got Game (Maybe)
Johnny Chan is one of the most well-known poker players in the world (in part thanks to his cameo in Rounders) but apparently he enjoys his hoops on the side.
According to this Instagram photo Chan is currently taking part in a fantasy basketball camp in Las Vegas along with ESPN writer Dave McMenamin and others.
We had no idea Chan was such a big basketball fan. Next time Mike McDermott and should just go one-on-one on the basketball court:
Chan: “What’s the score again?”
Mike McD: “I’m sorry, John. I don’t remember.”
Chan: "Seriously?"

3) Dope Stories Ending After 27 Episodes
It’s always interesting to see where people take their careers after poker and Dope Stories, the enlightening drug/lifestyle podcast by Dr. Pauly and Shane “Shaniac” Schleger was one of the more impressive efforts.
Unfortunately, after 27 episodes, it’s coming to an end.
Pauly published a blog today about why they are calling it quits. Basically it amounts to funding (Schleger allegedly spent over $10k producing the show) and the sheer time commitment.
Schleger also posted a note to his blog about the show ending with this choice excerpt:
I guess like many experiment with drugs, the project was: instructive, often fun and illuminating, other times challenging, but always meaningful for me and hopefully for those I interacted with along the way. Sustaining the peak high was not possible, and the trip had to come to an end.
Also like drugs, producing the podcast was expensive!
