French composer and singer-songwriter Grégoire is one of the many new faces in the 2014 event and he’s enjoying every second.
“I wanted to go to Vegas for the WSOP for a long time so this is very cool,” said Grégoire while on break.
Grégoire says he actually plays a lot of poker and managed to win a package to the 2014 Main Event.
“I love big tournaments,” said Grégoire. “I don’t play cash games because I have trouble leaving the table.”
With over 6,000 players the Main Event is the biggest in the world. The first-place finisher will walk away with $10 million this year.
Playing Against Phil Ivey, Mark Newhouse
Grégoire is a long ways off from the $10 million but he did make it to Day 3 and had a decent stack after the first break.
“It’s great,” said Grégoire. “I played with Phil Ivey on Day 1, yesterday I was with Mark Newhouse. You learn a lot. It’s awesome.”
Card games are not exactly foreign to Grégoire. His mother was a bridge champion and learned how to play at a very young age.
“We played all the card games at my house growing up,” said Grégoire.
Grégoire would eventually start to play cards onine when PokerStars.com was still available in France.
“I loved it then,” he said.
Grégoire has already had some success in the poker world with a handful of cashes in France and Las Vegas. He even finished 11th at WPT Paris in 2012.
“Sometimes I’ll play at the Aviation Club but only tournaments,” he said. “I like how they are more about the long run and the ability to be patient."
When it comes to poker Grégoire looks up to some of the French poker luminaries such as Bertand “ElkY” Grospellier and Fabrice Soulier.
“I know those guys,” he said. “Sometimes I talk with them and try to learn more.”
While Grégoire’s hopes are still alive in the 2014 Main Event he already has plans to return in 2015.
“I’m going to bring my family next time though,” said Grégoire.
