Despite a slow start the 2014 Main Event will go down as the fifth biggest in poker history with a considerable increase of 331 players over 2013.
First place will walk away with $10 million but everyone who makes the final table will lock up at least $730k.
Despite concerns about capacity there were no players that had to be turned away on Day 1c.
Day 1c Smashes Records for WSOP
Day 1c proved to be the biggest starting day in the history of the WSOP with swarms of poker pros and amateurs alike taking their shot at the $10m first-place prize.
Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan, Michael Mizrachi, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman and Joe Hachem were among the many pros who took to the felt today.
Daniel Negreanu also took his seat on Day 1c and provided the Shuffle Up and Deal after being awarded a ceremonial banner to commemorate his 2013 Player of the Year victory.
As usual Phil Hellmuth showed up late but actually managed to run up a decent stack before play concluded for the night.
It was a big day for athletes in the Main Event with the basketball’s Paul Pierce, football’s Gerard Piqué and former NFL star Richard Seymour all joining the action.
Among the players to bust on Day 1c were Ari Engel, Tom Dwan, Jerry Yang, Tom Schneider, Andy Frankenberger, Men Nguyen
Ali Eslami, Daniel Negreanu, Blair Hinkle, Mcklean Karr, Daniel Alaei, Jake Cody, Mark Seif and Jonathan Roy made it to Day 2b.
Day 2a kicks off tomorrow with the returning fields from Day 1a and Day 1b facing off in the Rio at 12 p.m.
