In today’s WSOP 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Calvin Anderson finally getting his due, Humberto Brenes rocking the 2014 WSOP and a surprising offer for advertisers in the Main Event.
Calvin Anderson Proves the Right Haircut Wins WSOP Bracelets
Prior to last night Calvin “Cal42688” Anderson was one of the best, well-liked, hard-working poker players without a WSOP bracelet in the world.
You can officially scratch the “without a bracelet” part from his résumé.
Late last night Anderson overcame a tough final table that included Joe Tehan and Jimmy Fricke to win first place in the 588-player $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo.
Anderson took down $190,538 for his victory and a shiny new WSOP bracelet.
Of course Anderson has been kicking ass at tournaments for longer than we can remember so this isn’t a complete surprise.
There was one key difference this year compared to previous ones, however.
The normally shortly-shorn Anderson was rocking some long locks at the final table. Is that proof that long hair stimulates next-level poker thinking? Gonna go with 100% yes.
Humberto Brenes on Pace for Most WSOP Cashes
The “chaaark” is back.
Savvy Costa Rican poker vet Humberto Brenes is off to a torrid start at the 2014 WSOP with seven cashes and just over $55k in profit.
Brenes is actually on pace right now to break the record for most cashes in a single WSOP. The record currently stands at 11, which Konstantin Puchkov accomplished in 2012.
Not bad considering Brenes is 63. The PokerStars Pro appears to have no trouble keeping up with the young guns at the WSOP.
Roland Israelashvili, Nick Shulman, Isidro Sifuentes and Daniel Eagles are right behind with six cashes.
Erik Seidel, Tom Koral and Dylan Linde are also in the top 10.
Brenes has over $6.1 million in lifetime tournament earnings but hasn’t won a WSOP bracelet since 1993. His speciality has always been cashing, however.
All this and the underdog Costa Rican soccer team is 1-0 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s looking to be a huge year for Brenes.
Buy Yourself Some Ad Space in the Main Event
This is… weird.
Little known cash-game player Jennifer Miller is publicly putting up her body as potential billboard in the WSOP Main Event.
Basically you buy her way into the $10,000 buy-in tournament and she’ll wear whatever you want.
Now this thing isn’t completely unheard of in the poker world as major online poker sites have been paying players to wear patches for years but there are a few differences:
1. Miller is doing this independently.
2. She’s not exactly a known pro.
3. It’s not 2006 anymore.
We can’t see her getting any takers but best of luck! Check out the video below:
