Today in the 3-Bet we find Shaun Deeb confused in Florida, four Canadians making jumps in the GPI and poker fans in Northern Ireland lobbying for legal poker.
1) All Old People In Florida Look Like Burt Boutin
Fans of poker pro Shaun Deeb very much enjoy his stream-of-consciousness, punctuation-free posts on forums and via his Twitter account.
Virtually impossible to make sense of at times, there’s still usually a thread of an idea Deeb is getting at and the fun is in finding it.
Deeb has been spending the last few days down in Miami playing some poker and apparently channeling an old comedian from the Poconos.
Mostly, he’s just been surrounded by old people.
Some sample tweets:
Moved from table pretty sure burt bouton on my left but unsure all old people in florida look the same
Forgot how south fla can be im the only person under 55 in this restaurant thanks to the specials To join the deciphering Deeb game, follow him on Twitter here
2) Duhamel Leads Canadian Surge in GPI Rankings
This week’s Global Poker Index update is out and while Erik Seidel has taken the #1 spot back from Jason Mercier, a few other players made notable jumps as well.
Four Canadians in particular gained some ground in the latest index, chief among them 2010 WSOP champ Jonathan Duhamel.
Duhamel jumped 41 spots all the way up to #11 on the strength of his epic crushing of the 2012 PCA.
Making four final tables and cashing for $1.2 million including a fourth in the $100k High Roller, a win in the $5k 8-Max and a second in the $25k High Roller will do that for you..
Vancouver pro Shawn Buchanan also moved back into the top five this week on the back of a PCA win, his in the $10k 6-Max Turbo.
Debuting in the top 10 is Waterloo, Ontario native Mike "Timex" McDonald.
MCDonald jumped up the charts thanks to a win in the $20k Epic Poker 8-Max Event, a second and third in EPT events and a third in a WPT event over the last few months.
Torontonian Matt Marafioti also jumped 10 spots back into the top 20 with his cash in the $25k PCA High Roller.

3) More Than Just Drunk Men on River Boats
This might sound familiar.
After a move to close down poker clubs in 2006, card games have been foced “underground” in Northern Ireland and average citizens have been unable to hold poker tournaments.
Ideally not for much longer, however, as a Legalise Poker in Northern Ireland group has made an appeal to the government to allow regulated poker clubs and tournaments again.
The group says legalization could create 150 jobs, encourage tourism and “see the resumption of a cross-community social activity.”
It also says the traditional view of poker "of drunk men playing in wild west saloons and river boats" couldn't be further from the truth today.
After feedback from a few parties including Sinn Fein, who’s representative said he had “no hangs-up about the legalization of poker,” the committee agreed to write to the department of social development to ask for a change in gambling legislation.
Hear, hear.
